Das Leistenkrokodil ist von allen Krokodilen das gefährlichste. Es hält den Rekord für das größte Krokodil: Es kann bis zu einer Tonne wiegen, so viel wie ein kleines Auto. Während die meisten Krokodile in Flüssen und Seen leben, ist das Leistenkrokodil das einzige, das sowohl mit Süßwasser als auch mit dem Salzwasser der Meere zu recht kommt. Neben dem Leistenkrokodil gibt es noch viele weitere Arten, insgesamt 25. Zu ihnen zählen zum Beispiel das Nilkrokodil, das Panzerkrokodil, Alligatoren und Kaimane.
